Mountain Mutual Water Company -- Current Projects

1.   New 6" transmission line to MMWC's main water tank

Several years ago, MMWC began installing a 6" transmission line from its wells to its main water storage tank on the southeast slope of Rhyolite Mountain.  In 2009, a hole was bored underneath Highway 67 and a new 6" transmission line routed from MMWC's wells most of the way to its main water storage tank.  Although there is still work to be done completing the 6" line along Rhyolite Mountain Road, MMWC now has sufficient pressure to keep its main storage tank full.

2.   Installing meters

On February 23, 2009, MMWC's Board of Directors passed a resolution requiring that meters be installed for all of its users by the end of 2011.  MMWC has selected and obtained remotely-readable Sensus smart meters and associated hardware and software, and is ready to begin installing them in user's homes.

MMWC customers are responsible for the cost of the meters and installation, which based on a resolution passed at MMWC's February 9, 2010 board meeting, has been set at $324.

About half of MMWC's owners do not have meter pits.  These members are responsible for the cost of purchase and installation of such meter pits.  MMWC will in the near future put together a list of approved contractors which members may contact to arrange for installation of the meter pits.  The contractor must coordinate with MMWC before starting work.  The cost that the contractor charges for installation will depend on the work required to do so, and is a matter to be negotiated between the member and the approved contractor.  Please call MMWC for more information.

3.   This Website

In March 2009, MMWC unveiled this http://www.mountainmutual.com website to increase accountability to its members, to raise awareness about MMWC's infrastructure, budget, water delivery, water rights and supply issues, and to encourage more members to volunteer and contribute their time and energy to make MMWC a better company.

4.   Volunteer Recruitment

MMWC's Board of Directors is asking members to consider volunteering in a variety of ways.  See the Volunteer page.

5.   Inventory and asset management, and strategic long term planning

To better evaluate MMWC's current and projected future needs, MMWC is seeking volunteers to help MMWC implement a new inventory and asset management program.

Future Projects

6.   New 6" transmission line from MMWC's main water tank to a new central distribution hub

After completing the 6" transmission line to the main tank, MMWC plans to begin installing a new 6", HDPE transmission line to connect to its distribution system.  This new line -- which would replace an existing 3", Schedule 40 PVC transmission line (which is inadequate for CCME's needs) -- would go from MMWC's main tank to a centrally-located water tank in the CCME subdivision.  This would alleviate several problems.  It would increase the volume and pressure of water feeding into several different sections of the subdivision.  It would also free MMWC to service the section of the CCME subdivision along Troy without shutting down the entire distribution network.

7.   Rules and Regulations Manual

MMWC also intends to develop a well-organized and detailed rules and regulation manual.  For an illustration, see Arabian Acres' Rules and Regulations.
